Information on Courtesy Faculty Hires

  • Must meet minimum qualifications for rank as any other faculty
  • Are not paid
  • Do not earn tenure
  • May be appointed for multi-year period, up to 5 years
  • If Courtesy Faculty teach, they must provide appropriate transcripts and a Certification of Employability Form
  • If Courtesy Faculty do not teach, transcripts and COE not required
  • CASDO will prompt departments each summer about expiring courtesy appointments
  • Courtesy faculty may participate in department activities consistent with departmental governance documents

Benefits to Courtesy Faculty

  • Use of the Rec Center at Faculty/Staff rates

  • Use of the USF Library

  • Parking permits at Faculty/Staff rates

  • Access to The Family Center daycare at FMHI at faculty/staff
    rates - with the possible exception of infant care, for which
    there is usually a waiting list

New Courtesy Appointments:

It is up to the department to submit the appropriate letter (teaching or non-teaching). I do not second-guess you

Department Staff: Submit the following items to Sharon Smith, CPR107.

  • appointment paper
  • curriculum vitae
  • appropriate letter of offer
  • mailing label addressed to proposed Courtesy Faculty - please don't forget these
