Frequently
Asked Questions

Q:
Can members of Search Committees abstain from voting during Search Committee
Meetings?
A:
Because Search Committees are governed by the Sunshine Law, only in
cases of Conflict of Interest can members of a Search Committee abstain
from voting.
Q:
What if questionable information comes to the Search Committee, unsolicited
- what happens?
A:
The Search Committee Chair should call the applicant and inform him/her
that such information has come to the Committee and ask the applicant
for clarification. Then INFORM THE PROVOST'S OFFICE of both the information
and the applicant's response to it and wait for guidance.
Q: If a candidate who has been a visiting
faculty member in the department applies for the permanent position,
does the department have to interview him/her?
A: Yes. Because the Guidelines are based
on equal treatment at each step, the unit should in all ways treat the
"visiting" faculty member as any other candidate. There
is no such thing as a "courtesy" interview.
