CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE JOINT SOUTHEAST / SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MEETING

The Memphis Section of the American Chemical Society is host to the joint 57th annual Southeastern Regional and the 61st annual Southwest Regional Meetings of the American Chemical Society. The joint meeting with shared programming will take place at the Peabody Hotel and Convention Center in downtown Memphis, Tennessee on November 1-4, 2005.

The meeting program will include many special events, symposia and workshops. Example of symposium topics include: Advances in Chiroptical Methods, Chemistry and the Law; Nanomaterials and Composites: Synthesis, Properties and Applications; Developments in NMR Spectroscopy; Biomedical Applications of Polymers; Spectroscopy of Matrix-isolated Species; Frontiers in Nucleic Acid Chemistry; Biosensors, Computational Chemistry; Undergraduate Research, Chemical Hygiene and Safety; the Southern Chemist Award Address, and the SE and SW Industrial Innovations Award presentations.

Contributed sessions will encompass biochemistry and medicinal chemistry, chemical education, analytical, inorganic, organic, polymer, and physical chemistry.

The online abstract program opens April 25, 2005. Submit abstracts through the SWRM/SERM 2005 website at http://chemistry.chem.memphis.edu/ACS/seswrm.html. http://membership.acs.org./s/serm2004/ , and visit the website for periodic updates on the program. Advance registration for the meeting will also open April 25. Register online or download a form at the SWRM/SERM 2005 website or on the ACS regional meetings site at www.chemistry.org/meetings/regional. All participants attending social functions are responsible for purchasing tickets to these events when they register.

There will be workshops on ACS Insurance, Hygiene and Safety, and How to Start a Co-op program. The ACS Office of Career Services will present workshops and hold a Regional Employment Clearinghouse onsite.

Other special events will include a "Meeting in Miniature" for undergraduate student presentations and posters. Students are requested to submit their papers to the online abstract system.

An exposition will take place during the middle two days of the meeting, Wednesday and Thursday, November 2nd and 3rd.
