THE AFRICANA STUDIES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Africana Studies internship is a field-based, research and experiential learning program that focuses on connecting the academic community to the larger world. Its specific intent is to develop applied profession-career skills and potential job exposure. Using the knowledge and skills gained in Africana Studies courses, graduate students and senior-level undergraduates may spend at least one semester on-site with an agency or organization. While graduate students are trained to participate in the internship setting primarily as researchers, undergraduates may participate as service learners. By offering students opportunities in a range of settings, the Department of Africana Studies strives to provide structured, well-planned internships that enrich and support students’ intellectual, creative and professional growth.
