Dr. Bochner joined the faculty in 1984. He served as chair of the department for 8 years while developing our doctoral program. His current projects investigate narratives surrounding aging, especially the aging of family members. He is co-director of the Institute for Interpretive Human Studies, editor of two book series, and serves on the editoral boards of several journals.

- (2006) Received the University of South Florida’s Outstanding Research Achievement Award.
- (2006). Received Ohio University’s Elizabeth Andersch Award for sustained contributions to Speech Communication Education and Research over one’s entire career.
- (2005) Received NCA’s Bernard J. Brommel Award for Distinguished Scholarly Contributions to Family Communication.
- Elected 2nd Vice-President of the National Communication Association (NCA). Will be President of NCA in 2008.
