Professor Butchart teaches courses in philosophy of communication, cultural studies, media theory and criticism. His research has been published in Communication Theory, Communication, Culture & Critique, Canadian Journal of Communication, Cultural Critique and elsewhere. He co-edited (with B. Chang) Succeeding Failure: Openings in Communication and Media Studies, a special issue of Communication Theory. He is 2009 recipient of the NCA Top Paper Award in Semiotics and Communication, and 2005 recipient of the ICA Top Student Paper in Philosophy of Communication. Prior to joining the faculty at USF, he was Assistant Professor in the Cultural Studies Program at Trent University, Canada.
