Conference Objectives
Learner OutcomesIntended Audience: Speech-Language Pathologists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses, Physicians, and Educators.
Conference Objectives: This conference is appropriate for therapists working with clients of all age groups: from the NICU, early intervention, school age, and adult populations who live in bilingual environments and have communication concerns. Level: Intermediate.
Understand the psychological issues involved in working with Hispanic children and families.
Increase assessment and intervention options in working with children and adults with communication disorders.
Review the importance of bilingual professional training program.
Speakers
Nury Darrow, MS,CCC-SLP received her master of science from the University of South Florida. Ms. Darrow works as a Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist in the acute care and rehabilitation center settings; displaying communication disorders associated with CVA and Head Injury, in addition to disorders of Voice, Fluency, Articulation and Language.
Aquiles Iglesias, Ph.D,CCC-SLP is director of the Hispanic Emphasis Training Program. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Iowa. Dr. Iglesias is a professor in the Department of Communication sciences and Disorders at Temple University.
Marcia Pita, Ph.D received her clinical psychology degree from George Washington University. She has eight years experience working as a bilingual psychologist in the school settings.
Felix J. Subervi, Ph.D. received his clinical psychology degree from U.S. International University, San Diego and completed his post-doctoral fellowship on child clinical psychology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Subervi has twenty years of progressive responsibilities and documented success in clinical and school psychology, social work, as well as mental hearth administration. He has evaluated and treated children and families, in eight countries, and in various settings.
Continuing Education
Accreditation: University of South Florida is approved by the CEB of ASHA to sponsor CE activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. This program is offered for 0.7 CEUs at the Intermediate Level. ASHA approval of CE sponsorship does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, of clinical procedures.
