Text Box: Getting Started with Yahoo Messenger Conferencing. To register: Go to Start and click on big red Y. A small window opens and asks, “Are you a new user?” Click yes and register unless you already have a Yahoo e-mail account. An existing Yahoo e-mail address and password will be recognized without registering. To add the ID’s of your classmates: 1) Simply click on Add on the tool bar near the top. The icon looks like a person. 2) Enter a classmate’s Yahoo ID. You can configure the display for the name and group later. Note: When you add a friend to your list, the friend is automatically notified and given the option to block you or add you in return. The friend can chose either of these options, or neither of them. 3) Continue adding each classmate by repeating 1 and 2. To configure the display of your friends' names: 1) Click the Login menu, select Preferences, and then select Appearance. 2) Under the Display of friend names heading, select Show nickname or first and Last name of friends if available. Press the OK button. To add a new group to your Friend List: 1) Click the Tools menu at the top of the main Messenger window, select Manage Friend List, then select Create Group.... 2) Enter the name of your new group (ELI Classmates) and click the OK button to add the group to your Friend List. To begin a conference: 1) Choose one of these 3. a) Click the Tools menu at the top of your Messenger screen and select Invite to Conference; b) Click the Friend menu in any instant message box and select Invite to Conference; c) In any instant message window, click the toolbar button that shows three people talking. 2) In each of these methods, a new window called "Invite Friends to Conference" will open. On the left, you'll see a list of your Messenger friends who are currently online. Double-click on any of these names to add the friend(s) to your Conference Invitation List on the right. You can also invite anyone who has a valid Yahoo! ID to the conference by pressing the Invite Other button and typing in their Yahoo! ID. 3) When you're finished selecting friends, click the Invite button at the bottom of the window. A new conference window will open up. Your friends will arrive as soon as they accept your invitation. To log out of Messenger: 1) Click the Login menu. 2) Click Disconnect. 3) Click Logout and Close.
