Common Butterfly Plants

Purple Passionvine Purple passionvine (Passiflora spp.):
This is the larval food for the Gulf fritillary butterfly A "must have" if you want to attract this butterfly.

Scarlet Milkweed Scarlet milkweed (Asclepias curassavica):
Monarch butterflies are attracted to the red and yellow flowers and the caterpillars eat the leaves.

Pentas Pentas (Pentas lanceolata):
This is one of the best non-native nectar plants to include in a butterfly garden. It is easy to grow and butterflies love it.

Firebush Firebush (Hamelia patens):
A stunning evergreen native shrub that sports tubular, nectar-filled red flowers nearly year-round.

Butterfly Bush Butterfly bush (Buddleja spp.):
Sometimes called the "lilac of the south," butterfly bush will attract a wide variety of butterflies in search of nectar.

Stokes Aster Stokes aster (Stokesia laevis):
The flowers of this native plant range from white to pink to purple.

This mounding shrub from South Africa attracts many types of butterflies.

Blackeyed Susan Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta):
Easy to grow in well drained soil and full to partial shade. They bloom profusely during the summer and fall.
