COMMUNITY INITIATIVE PUBLIC POLICY INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS The Public Policy Internship Programs give students the opportunity to become actively involved in the political process. Through the Legislative Internship Program selected students are placed with local, state or federal legislators. They work nine hours per week with the legislator and take a weekly seminar in which they integrate their experiential learning with their assigned readings. During the spring students can focus their entire semester on the Florida legislative session through the Tallahassee Internship Program, beginning with an intensive course on Florida history, issues and politics and then completing a full-time internship in Tallahassee. Students who want to follow a particular policy through the Florida legislative session can enroll in the Legislative Directed Study after taking POS 3931 Policy and Policymakers. Finally, students who are interested in national level politics and policy-making can spend a semester in Washington, D.C. at The Washington Center. For more information contact Robin R. Jones at (813) 974-8452 or jones@cas.usf.edu.
