Robert Brinkmann received his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in 1989. He also has a Masters and BS in Geology. Brinkmann’s work focuses in two broad areas: 1) human alteration of soils, sediments, and water; and 2) karst geomorphology and land use. His research has taken him to many locations in the world where he has worked on a number of research projects that look at the geographical dimensions of soil pollution, archaeological deposits, and water quality. Brinkmann also studies Florida’s karst landscape, particularly sinkhole geomorphology and sinkhole policy. He is the author or co-author of numerous articles and two books. Brinkmann arrived in the Geography Department at USF in 1990 and has served as Chair of the Department of Environmental Science and Policy and as Interim Associate Dean of Faculty and Program Development for the College of Arts and Sciences. He teaches courses in physical geography including soils and geomorphology.
