Club Annual Picnic The
department has two student organizations. The first of these, the Geography
Club, is open to all interested students of the University, regardless of
grade point average or major. The club is mainly run by undergraduate
students, and they have a wide range of activities, including beach and river
clean-ups, canoe and bicycle tours, and camping trips. Each Fall, the
Geography Club hosts a Fall barbeque for students, staff, and faculty. The other organization, the Kappa Kappa
Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), is open to all students with 12 credit
hours in geography classes and a 3.0 grade point average or better in
geography classes. A major or minor in geography is not required. GTU meetings are usually held in conjunction
with the Geography Club meetings. Late in the spring semester the Geography
Club and GTU organize a geography banquet. During the banquet special awards
are presented and new members of GTU are inducted.
A
third student organization, the Geography Graduate Association, will come
on-line in the fall of 2002. This
association will be open to all students in the University, and will be
focused on meeting the specific needs of the graduate student body.
