Association of Ancient Historians to meet at USF:

From April 10th - 13th, 2008, the Department of History will host the Annual Meeting of the Association of Ancient Historians.  Scholars from North America and Western Europe will convene at USF for two days of papers to discuss the following topics as well as an open session: (1) Science and technology in the ancient world; (2) Ancient navies and naval power; (3) From the outside looking in (individuality, community and dominance in the ancient world); (4) Echoes of antiquity (memories, recollections and ‘uses’ of the ancient world in subsequent periods); (5) Aspects of 'globalization' in the ancient world; (6) Archaeology and ancient history.

The Historians' Guild Wants You!!!

Brand new student organization!  Open to all USF students who wish to further their studies of the past.  The Historians’ Guild will hold lectures, field trips, socials, movie nights, and round-table discussions to help students expand their historical horizons and develop professional networks.  Meetings are held every other Thursday at 5:00 pm in SOC 254.  The next meeting will be held on February 14th, 2008.

Ward Stavig Memorial Lecture Series

 

 

The Office of the Provost, the Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Department of History are proud to announce the first Ward Stavig Memorial Lecture

Professor Alejandro de la Fuente will speak on
 “Searching for the Subaltern: Ward Stavig’s contribution to the historiography of Latin America”
October 11th, 2007, 4:00 pm, in the Grace Allen Reading Room 

The Ward Stavig Memorial Lecture Series commemorates the achievements of USF Professor Ward Stavig. Every year, the History Department will select a prominent scholar to deliver a public lecture on a topic of interest to the department, the university, and the community at large.
