Humanities Institute Banner

The humanities represent one of the central missions of a liberal arts education, comprising the following disciplines: literature, classics, philosophy, the arts, history, languages, political thought, and religion.

The humanities focus on our experience as humans, both individually and socially; and in our contemporary context, we consider the humanities a master key for unlocking life’s alternatives and preparing for various careers. Each one of us, regardless of discipline or occupation, needs to understand how to function in society – and studying the humanities provides that foundation.

The Institute provides an important platform for in-depth dialogue about our relationships with each other, the ways in which the past affects the present and our present determines our future, and perhaps most important – how we can contribute to the moral and social progress of our global society.

Through a wide range of scholarly exchanges, research opportunities, lectures and seminars, the Institute creates a stimulating intellectual environment in which students, faculty, and members of the greater community can learn from and work with renowned scholars and contemporary thinkers who will encourage us to challenge our assumptions.
