Senior Research Paper Guidelines
  1. Paper will be done as "independent research" and student will sign up for course in the department of the Committee Chair.
  2. Credit for the paper will be a minimum of 3 hours, but could be 4 hours maximum. Paper should be completed in one semester.
  3. Permit for course will be secured before registration. This supposes that the student will have formulated a definite proposal, which has been approved by the student's director. Approval of the 2 other members should be done early in the writing process because all three will ultimately need to approve.
  4. This proposal should be on a topic for which the student has both background and interest.
  5. The proposal should identify the topic, how it will be addressed, and include bibliographic references related to the topic.
  6. The paper will be graded S/U, with the possibility of designating outstanding papers as "With Honors".
  7. Length should be appropriate to the topic, but ordinarily no shorter than 15 pages and no longer than 30 pages, including graphics and bibliography.
  8. Student should use a bibliographical format acceptable to the faculty committee chair.
