Professor to present health economics research
TAMPA, Fla. -- University of South Florida economics professor Gabriel Picone will present his research about estimating the effectiveness of doctor visits when diagnosed with a chronic illness. The presentation will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in BSN 120.
The study discusses a discrete multiple state duration model that allows for duration dependence, unmeasured heterogeneity, partial observability of the state and endogenous time-varying treatment of diabetes.
The econometric strategy has numerous potential empirical applications, and Picone and his team applied their duration model to the progression of diabetic neuropathy--a complication of diabetes with four levels of progression--which may lead to amputation if it is left untreated.
