Oktoberfest to promote faculty research[01.04.2011]
TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of South Florida College of Arts and Sciences is hosting the Fifth Annual Oktoberfest at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 in MSC 3707.
Partnering with the USF Club, a social club for faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the University, Oktoberfest’s goal is to promote the research and scholastic achievements of the College of Arts and Sciences members.
“It was borne of the idea of how to get faculty to talk about research outside of their department,” said Sandra Justice, the senior research administrator of the Office of Research and Scholarship in the College of Arts and Sciences. “It is very easy to be ‘siloed’ in your research; we need to get people out and talking.”
With more than 500 faculty members, the College of Arts and Sciences has more than 100 funded research faculty and on-going research for several important initiatives in fields including neuroscience, Nano science and drug discoveries.
“We created a forum to bring whatever it is that you do, to build collegiate bridges of interdisciplinarity,” Justice said.
Oktoberfest is open to the public. There will be a buffet featuring traditional German dishes including bratwurst and potato pancakes. Beer and wine also will be provided. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door. They are free to the College of Arts and Sciences and USF Club faculty and staff members.
