Heide Castaneda
USF professor named Leadership Fellow by the American Anthropological Association[12.12.2011]
TAMPA, Fla. -- Heide Castaneda, an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Florida was recognized as a 2011 AAA Leadership Fellow by the American Anthropological Association (AAA).
Leadership Fellows gain the opportunity to become leaders in their field and within the AAA through mentoring provided by members of the AAA Executive Board in areas such as association governance and leadership.
Castaneda earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in anthropology from the University of Texas at San Antonio as well as a master’s of public health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. She received her doctoral degree in anthropology from the University of Arizona in 2007. In 2011, Castaneda also was named a Fulbright Scholar.
Her research is focused on social inequality and medical anthropology, specifically on migrants and their medical concerns.
Castaneda along with another Leadership Fellow, Julienne Rutherford of the University of Illinois at Chicago, were recognized at the AAA Awards Ceremony during the 110th AAA Annual Meeting in Montreal this November.
The AAA is the largest professional organization of anthropologists and others interested in anthropology.
