USF to hold second annual SASS event

TAMPA, Fla. -- The second Science and Society Symposium event will be on April 11, 2012, from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Marshall Oval Theatre and a reception to follow with free refreshments in the MSC Amphitheatre. The symposium will include guest speakers discussing different topics relating to science and society.

The purpose of the event is to create an appreciation of how science and society depends on one another. The event comprises of six guest speakers who will speak between 8-15 minutes on different topics ranging from biodiversity loss to Alzheimer’s disease to creativity needed in the sciences. ?

There also will be cultural performances from the theatre department and the School of Music?.

SASS is a free event for all of members of the USF community in hopes to inspire students and the community to understand the natural world and its human context and how it plays a role in society.?

SASS was created by graduated students from USF Health in 2010 to help the community explore and realize the relationship between science and society. ?Other organizations that are helping to put on this event include Association of Medical Science Graduate Students (AMSGS), Master's International, Global Health Student Association, Public Health Student Association and the Honors College Student Council.

The event is sponsored by College of Arts and Sciences, USF Health and Student Government.
