Bionqua Lynch, the reigning Miss USF

Biology student to compete for Miss Florida crown
[07.06.2012]

TAMPA, Fla. -- Bionqua Lynch never thought about entering a pageant until her friends encouraged her to compete in the 2012 Mr. & Miss University of South Florida Scholarship Pageant last April.

Since college is the place to experiment and try new things, she decided to enter and won the title of Miss USF. The senior biology major is now headed to the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant in St. Petersburg this weekend at the Mahaffey Theater. The winner will represent Florida in the Miss America pageant.

USF Student Government organizers of the Mr. & Miss University of South Florida Scholarship Pageant worked successfully last year to connect USF’s competition with the Miss America organization. Thanks to their hard work, the winner of the Miss USF title is automatically eligible to compete in the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant.

Lynch said she wanted to leave a mark on the USF campus and do something great that everyone will remember her by. As an executive board member and former treasurer of the National Council for Negro Women (NCNW), she felt that it was her role to show members of NCNW what it’s like to be a leader on campus. As Miss USF, she has had a special opportunity to extend her mark by making appearances at local schools to speak to young girls about college.

Working out at least five times a week, practicing her interview skills, keeping up-to-date with current events, and practicing her singing talent, Lynch has been preparing tirelessly for Miss Florida, which she credits with helping her to further develop her communication and social skills.

Whoever wins the title of Miss Florida this weekend will receive a scholarship and serve as an ambassador for the state and compete for the Miss America crown.
