USF Botanical Gardens conducting rap contest

TAMPA, Fla. -- The USF Botanical Gardens is seeking submissions of rap songs containing information about the gardens and Rafters, the cat who lives there. The contest is open to USF students, faculty, staff and alumni. The grand prize winner will receive a $25 iTunes gift card and the chance for their rap to be used in Botanical Gardens promotions. One second-place winner will receive a $15 Starbucks gift card.

To enter, go to to upload an audio file, type the lyrics, or copy and paste the YouTube link of your rap song in the appropriate box.

The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. EST Monday, July 30. Contestants must like Rafters’ Facebook page before entries will be considered, and fans of the page will vote for their favorite rap. Fan voting will begin July 31 and end Aug. 3. The winners will be notified via email and the prizes will be mailed.

Raps must be original and include information about Rafters the cat and the Botanical Gardens. More details and official rules will be posted on Rafters’ Facebook page, Lyrics cannot include inappropriate or offensive language, and by entering, contestants agree to all terms and rules.
