Chemistry professor named Distinguished University Professor

TAMPA, Fla. -- Michael J. Zaworotko, Ph.D., who has been named one of this year’s Distinguished University Professors (DUP). DUP is an honor given to individuals exhibiting an outstanding scholarly record while making significant contributions to USF and his or her profession.

Zaworotko was chosen based on his extensive and impressive body of work in the field of chemistry. He is a leading researcher in the field of metal organic materials and crystal engineering. He ranks among the top 20 of the most highly cited chemists in the world during the 2000-2010 window by the Institute of Science Index-Web of Science. He also was the founding editor of the journal Crystal Engineering and has served on the editorial boards of other important journals.

Zaworotko chaired the Department of Chemistry from 1999-2008. He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2011.

Zaworotko will be honored at the Faculty Honors and Awards ceremony during the Fall 2013 semester.
