Leadership society application deadline approaching[09.24.2013]
TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of South Florida College of Arts and Sciences is recruiting outstanding students for its new Dean’s Student Leadership Society. Application packets are due Monday, Sept. 30 by 5 p.m. to CPR 107.
The purpose of this highly selective group of CAS students is to promote pride in a liberal arts education and to assist in strengthening the identity of both the College of Arts and Sciences and the University of South Florida. These students will further develop leadership and communication skills while representing the College at various events for alumni, donors, students and the Tampa Bay community. In addition, they will work with CAS administration, faculty and staff on a regular basis, and have the opportunity to be mentored by CAS alumni.
“The thing I like the most about USF undergraduates is their fearlessness,” Dean Eric Eisenberg said. “Given even a small window of opportunity, they are ready to take on the world. I created my student leadership society both as a way of getting to know our students better and to give them a chance to expand their knowledge and experience base through activities that bring them in contact with leadership opportunities of various kinds.”
Membership is open to CAS majors who are in good standing with the University and the College, and who have at least a 3.0 GPA. Students must have taken at least 30 hours at the USF Tampa campus to be eligible. Applications are available on the website or in CPR 107. In addition, a faculty recommendation is required, and this form is available online or in CPR 107.
“Students who aspire to leadership positions in any field and have a curiosity about what it takes to lead in a major research university should definitely apply,” Eisenberg said. “I can’t wait to meet the inaugural class!”
Application packets are due Monday, Sept. 30. A list of required information for the application packet is available on the website.
“This will be a rewarding experience for our students,” said Michele Dye, co-founder and adviser of the Dean’s Student Leadership Society. “They will have the chance to make a huge difference within the College of Arts and Sciences, and will make lasting connections with fellow students and alumni.”
