[04.01.2014]

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Department of Women's and Gender Studies and the Women's Status Committee at USF will sponsor a symposium on military sexual trauma from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in the Marshall Student Center, room 2708.

Researchers and graduate students from USF and nearby VA Hospitals will speak about some of the ways that academics, activists and medical researchers can help the nation address the pressing issue of military sexual trauma.

The event, entitled "Military Sexual Trauma: A Symposium," will explore several topics on the subject including: research on women veterans' experiences, problems with defining sexual assault and rap, MST in historical context and many more.

The day will conclude with a roundtable discussion of the ways that campus sexual assaults do and do not parallel military assaults, and how academia and the military might work together to address sexual assault.

Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. For additional information, early registration or directions to campus please visit: wgs.usf.edu/mst.
