USF Botanical Gardens to hold 16th annual Tropical Plant Fair

TAMPA, Fla. -- The USF Botanical Gardens is having its 16th Annual Tropical Plant Fair July 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and July 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 for non-members and free for USF Botanical Gardens members and children under age 12. Parking is free for all.

Vendors are selling hundreds of blooming tropical and exotic plants such as orchids, gingers, plumeria, bromeliads and more, all in a festive atmosphere. They also will be selling rare and popular fruit trees, and providing advice on how to grow them.

On July 12, experts will speak at 11 a.m. about the basics of growing orchids to give guests a better idea about the process. Then at noon, guests will have the opportunity to attend the Orchid Repotting Workshop. There will be many orchid growers selling a huge variety of orchids to satisfy both experts and beginners.

July 13 offers the Pepper Beauty Contest, a tasteful pageant. Any one who brings a decorated pepper to enter into the Pepper Beauty Contest gets in free on Sunday. Prizes and glory will be awarded to participants.

The USF Botanical Gardens is located near the southwest corner of the USF Tampa campus, at the intersection of Pine and Alumni Drive off Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
