Sociology graduate director to serve as president of international society

TAMPA, Fla. -- Donileen Loseke, Ph.D., director of the graduate program in the Department of Sociology, has been elected President of the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP).

Loseke’s will start her term as “president elect” beginning at the end of the annual meetings in August 2015 to 2016. In August 2016, she will begin her term as president that will culminate in August 2017 when she will lead the annual meetings. These meetings will be held August 11-13, 2017 in Montreal, Canada.

Loseke has been an active member in the SSSP theory division for many years and has previously served on the SSSP board of directors as well as on the editorial board of the SSSP Journal “Social Problems.”

The SSSP is a community of scholars, practitioners, advocates and students working to solve the problems of social life and to develop informed social policy. Members work together to make a difference through developing and applying research in areas such as the application of critical, scientific and humanistic perspectives to the study of vital social problems.
