[08.14.2015]

TAMPA, Fla. -- Cassie Childs, literature doctoral candidate in the Department of English, was awarded the USF Dissertation Completion Fellowship by the USF Office of Graduate Studies for the 2015-2016 academic year. She is completing her dissertation, “Traveling Women and the Consumption of Place in 18th-Century Travel Letters and Journals,” which considers how various women-authored travel narratives of the long 18th century employ food in the construction of place and identity. The fellowship will allow her to defend the dissertation in spring 2016.

Heather Fox, second-year Ph.D. student, was awarded a Frances S. Summersell Center for the Study of the South Fellowship. The award will enable Fox to conduct research in the history and culture of the American South at the W. S. Hoole Special Collections Library, the A.S. Williams III Americana Collection and other University of Alabama libraries.

Tiffany Wilgar, doctoral student in rhetoric and composition, has been awarded travel funding for her budding dissertation project. Wiglar received the Summer Award for Off-Campus Upper Division and Graduate Students from Charles Redd Center of Western Studies. She will use this award to travel to Las Vegas in summer 2015 to research risk communications at the National Atomic Testing Museum and Special Collections Library at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for her project titled “Seeing Stardust: Class, Culture, and the Nevada Test Site.”
