Paper Matters: A Celebration of Chapbooks opens at the USF Library[08.27.2015]
TAMPA, Fla. -- Paper Matters: A Celebration of Chapbooks opens in the Special Collections display on the 4th floor of the USF Tampa Library on Aug. 20 and runs through the end of September 2015.
This display opened on Aug. 20 and features student and professional chapbooks, including one piece from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Visitors are invited to view the featured hand-made books, learn about the history of book arts and consider various ways they might become involved in the art of the book at the University of South Florida. The display is open during regular library hours.
Elaine Sexton, author, poet and editor at Q Ave Press, advised the curators. She writes that chapbooks are “largely obscure and essentially privately traded but recently they have seized the literary publishing world’s attention, casting this one time off-the-grid art form into the limelight.”
A reception will be held on Monday, Sept. 21 from 3-4 p.m. in the Grace Allen room of the USF Tampa Library. There will be live music performed by University of Florida students and brief remarks from the curators, who will also answer questions.
This event is curated by Heather Sellers Ph.D., professor of English, and two graduate students in the creative writing program, Karissa Womack and Annalise Mabe, with support from Melanie Griffin, special collections librarian, Jimmy Suarez and the USF Creative Writing program.
