CAS Office of Research and Scholarship present three grant writing workshops - register now!

TAMPA, Fla. – The College of Arts and Sciences Office of Research and Scholarship (ORS) encourages USF faculty and graduate students engaged in research to register for its three grant writing workshops during March 2017. Participants will have the opportunity to attend workshops that will help them craft and submit the best grant proposals.

The first workshop, Navigating the Proposal Development and Submission Process, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 3, 2017, in the Grace Allen room on the sixth floor of the USF Library. The workshop leader is Randy Larsen, associate dean of research for the College of Arts and Sciences. This first workshop is focused on assisting faculty through the development and submission of grant proposals by crafting impactful research concepts and how to navigate helpful research tools provided by the ORS.

Maria Womack, professor in the Department of Physics and previous National Science Foundation’s (NSF) program director, will host the second workshop, NSF Grant Strategies Workshop. That will be held at 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 10, 2017, in ISA 5020. Womack will outline NSF and where the money is, strategies for competitive applications and delve into the “rules” of submitting proposals. Womack helped create and develop the new NSF-NASA partnership, so she has experience in merit reviews and funding recommendations for more than 600 proposals.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) R-Grants workshop will be held at 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 31, 2017, in the Grace Allen room on the sixth floor of the USF Library. Associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, Juan Del Valle, will bring valuable NIH funding experience as principal investigator on multiple NIH R-type grants. This last workshop will outline mechanisms that influence success rates, research strategies associated with significance, innovation and approach, as well as understanding summary statements and planning resubmission.
