TAMPA, Fla. -- Six College of Arts and Sciences professors received the University of South Florida Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award for the 2009-10 school year.
Ambar Basu (assistant professor, Department of Communication), Catherine Beneteau (associate professor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics), Judith Bryant (professor, Department of Psychology), Nicole Discenza (associate professor, Department of English), Marty Gould (assistant professor, Department of English) and Lori Roscoe (assistant professor, Department of Communication) will be honored at an awards ceremony on Nov. 29, 2010.
University officials interrupted the winners’ classes to hand them an official letter from USF System President Judy Genshaft. The university officials then announced to the class that their professor received the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award.
Discenza, who has been teaching at USF for 10 years, said she was very honored to have won this award.
“Teaching and working with undergraduates matters a lot to me, and I'm very pleased to be chosen for this award,” Discenza said. “I also felt very gratified that the students in the class Dr. [Linda] Whiteford interrupted seemed to be happy for me, too!”
To be considered for this award, candidates must be full-time continuing faculty who taught a minimum of two undergraduate courses during the academic year 2009-2010, and who were appointed to full-time continuing faculty positions on or before the beginning of the 2008-2009 academic year and who have not received the Advising or Teaching Award during the previous three years.
