CAS to host annual Oktoberfest
TAMPA, Fla. -- The 2012 College of Arts and Sciences Oktoberfest, featuring research poster presentations and a reception, will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Marshall Student Center at the University of South Florida.
The event, intended to promote research and scholarly excellence, is co-sponsored by the USF College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), ResearchOne and the USF Club, a social group for faculty, students, staff and friends of the university.
“Oktoberfest provides an opportunity to grow interdisciplinary collaboration as we learn more about the expertise and experience of our colleagues,” said Sandy Justice, CAS senior research administrator.
In 2011, more than 300 people attended the Fifth Annual Oktoberfest. Three schools within CAS -- Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Social Sciences -- were represented, with 17 out of 23 departments participating in an event that highlighted areas of research such as drug discovery, materials science and applied anthropology. More than 60 posters and scholarly displays from the Florida Institute of Government, the Humanities Institute, USF departments including anthropology and mass communications, and a robust sampling of STEM research projects were featured, showcasing a growing culture of interdisciplinary research.
This year’s event will continue its focus on interdisciplinary research. Faculty and students engaged in multiple college or department research are particularly encouraged to participate. To register a poster, visit CAS's Office of Research and Scholarship. For questions, contact Sandy Justice in the CAS Office of Research at firstname.lastname@example.org.
