USF Botanical Gardens to host 4th annual honey tasting event[07.31.2013]
TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of South Florida Botanical Gardens is hosting the Fourth Annual Taste of Honey fundraiser on Sept. 28. From 1-3 p.m., visitors will be able to taste more than 100 honeys from all over the world and participate in beekeeping workshops.
Expert staff members will be discussing colony collapse and beekeeping basics as well as how to set up your own apiary. For those interested in starting their own hive, demonstrations will include various beekeeping outfits and how to properly wear them, how to create your own hive at home and proper equipment, such as smokers, to get your hive started. Of course the Garden Beekeeper, Brent Weisman, will be leading tours around the Gardens.
The catered event will feature a honey-inspired menu, door prizes and live music throughout the afternoon. Tickets are on sale for $20 each. All proceeds benefit the beekeeping program at the USF Botanical Gardens.
