Research Agenda for Urban Sustainable Food Policy Research Group
[2.13.2014]

TAMPA, Fla. –- The Urban Sustainable Food Policy Research Group (USFPRG) will be presenting their research agenda and initial findings from their first project, Urban Agriculture Policies in the Tampa Bay Region: Sovereignty, Sustainability and the Sacred, at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens.

The Urban Sustainable Food Policy Research Group’s first project will answer the question: how do public policies on urban agriculture impact communities? To find the answer, they will focus on local governments as well as urban farm and garden policies. Their research will include the fields of environmental science, ethics, public policy, religious studies and urban planning.

At the event, which is open to the public, USFPRG group members will introduce their overall mission, map out their future plans and explain their research in relation to the group’s main goal.

USFPRG is an interdisciplinary group of College of Arts and Sciences faculty. Along with an urban planning specialist, USFPRG aims to build collaborations between the community and the university. Through research, they aspire to make new scientific discoveries to strengthen the economy and build sustainable communities. Their goals are based on the USF 2013-2018 Strategic Plan to advance USF as a global research university.
