EGSA Welcome Letter
[08.27.2015]

TAMPA, Fla. -- Dear English Graduate Students, Faculty, Adjuncts and Staff,

I am delighted to introduce myself as new EGSA president for the 2015-2016 academic year. Last year’s EGSA officers worked tirelessly, implementing new and exciting projects for the English department. I would like to publicly thank last year’s officers for their hard work and dedication to the organization!

As we begin a new academic year, I would like to introduce the incoming officers: Annalise Mabe, Vice President; Tiffany Wilgar, Secretary; Rachel Tanski, Treasurer; Samantha Cosgrove, Webmaster; Jon Ray and Lesley Brooks, Fall Colloquium Coordinators; Kristin Gocinski and Chrissy Connor, Spring Conference Coordinators; Sophia Gourgiotis, Events Coordinator; Megan Mandell and Micah Chapman, Mentor Program Coordinators; and the continuation of the EGSA’s faculty advisor position, held by Dr. John Lennon. Please join me in welcoming our new officers.

EGSA is proud to announce the implementation of the new Mentor Program for undergraduate English majors. Developed by Megan Mandell, Heather Fox and Micah Chapman, this program is a wonderful incentive for undergraduates and graduates to collaborate, learn and celebrate the importance of the English major. Please look for further information regarding this program.

This fall semester, EGSA will host various academic and social events, offering graduate students and faculty the opportunity to network and mingle. Below is a brief listing:

  • EGSA welcome-back mixer
  • EGSA—GAU networking event
  • Co-Sponsor for the Chapbook presentation
  • Co-Sponsor for the Writer’s Harvest
  • Fall Colloquium
  • Coffee with a professor
  • EGSA tailgate
  • Various professionalization events (TBA)

Additionally, EGSA would like to call all artists in the department! We are holding a design contest for the new EGSA T-Shirt, to be printed in October. If you would like to participate, send your original design to Annalise Mabe at annalisemabe@mail.usf.edu by Sept. 28. This is a great opportunity to showcase your work as an artist!

Finally, don’t forget to check out the EGSA website at http://usfegsa.wix.com/usfegsa and stay tuned for more details on upcoming EGSA events. Welcome back, everyone!

All the best,

Stephanie Derisi
