Tampa, Fla. -- Everyone has been told that recycling is important and should be done on a daily basis. There is even a song titled "3 R's" by Jack Johnson informing people to reduce, reuse and recycle.
For Dan Bakst, a junior majoring in mass communications, the idea of reusing involved a plastic bag and an imagination.
While working on a web series that Bakst and his friend Dan Nguyen maintain, the two became stressed. It was then when Bakst's mother sent him the link to the "A Bag's Life" contest.
His music video on reusing, “Bags Are Our Best Friends,” including a plastic bag with a personality and information about reusing the bag, won first place in the Reuse Category. Bakst was given $1,500 for the prize.
"It was a lot of fun to shoot, edit, make music for and it was exactly what we needed after being stressed out," Bakst said.
The "A Bag's Life" website serves as a public educational campaign that unites the Florida Recycling Partnership with non-profits, business, community and government organizations around the common goal of promoting the three R’s, according to the website.
