USF MFA grad Jaquira Díaz visits USF[12/10/2019]
TAMPA, Fla. – USF Creative Writing MFA graduate Jaquira Díaz visited campus on Oct. 31 to speak about the craft of memoir writing and to read from her new memoir about growing up in Puerto Rico and Miami. The memoir, “Ordinary Girls,” has received glowing reviews in national media outlets, including NPR and Time magazine. The book was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and an Oprah Magazine selection. The New York Times wrote that “Ordinary Girls” is “a painful yet illuminating memoir, a testament to resilience in the face of scarcity, a broken family, substance abuse, sexual assault, mental illness, suicide and violence.” Díaz is on a national tour, and her second book, a novel, is under contract with Algonquin Books.
