Christopher Smith
Visiting Professor
P. Christopher Smith is Professor
of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell,
and Visiting Professor at USF. He received
his Ph.D. in 1966 at the Ruprecht Karl Universität,
Heidelberg, under the Mentorship of Hans-Georg Gadamer,
having received his B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy at Columbia
(1959 and 1963, respectively). He has published many articles on aesthetics,
contemporary hermeneutics, Hegel, Heidegger, and Gadamer, together with a number
of monographs: Hermeneutics and Human Finitude: Toward a Theory of Ethical
Understanding, 1991; The Hermeneutics of Original Argument: Demonstration,
Dialectic, Rhetoric, l998; and translations of Gadamer's Hegel's Dialectic , l976,
his studies on Plato ( Dialogue and Dialectic ) l980, and his The
Idea of the Good in Platonic-Aristotelian Philosophy l986, all with introductions
and extensive commentary.
