Objectives

1. To identify ethical issues arising in today's business world--including international, environmental, racial, ethnic, and gender dimension.

2. To view these issues from the standpoint of business executives, their employees, their competitors, their customers, and their communities.

3. To develop the knowledge and skill necessary to grasp, clarify, analyze, and insofar as possible resolve these issues. And in so doing: (a) to learn the importance of respect for persons and their autonomy, (b) to become familiar with basic concepts and theories in ethics, (c) to compare decision-making based on the principle that a business can do anything not actually illegal with decision-making based on a meshing of laws and ethics, (d) to understand how a corporation makes business decisions and how an ethical orientation can be embodied in it, (e) to develop and practice thinking critically, creatively, and conceptually, (f) to assess ways of resolving broad issues in business ethics, and also to seek ways of solving particular problem situations via case studies, and (g) to think proactively about problems that arise doing business in order to prevent or minimize their negative effects and if possible to bring about positive ones.

Requirements

(1) An examination component--namely, the completion of three scheduled examinations which may be, in whole or in part, take-home--(2) a leadership component--namely, writing three case analyses and presenting your results in class at assigned times, (3) a participation component--namely, meaningful particiption in class discussions.


Grades

Examination Component = 90.0% (30% each)

Leadership Component = 07.5%

Participation Component = 02.5%

90---100% = A

80----89% = B

70----79% = C

60----69% = D

00----59% = F
