Objective.

These 50 minute session are intended to facilitate the lectures and assignments provided by Mr. Silver. Textbook assignments are complementary to the primary texts, and both concern skills in critical thinking. College level reading and writing are emphasized. This includes reading comprehension, note-taking, formal writing, formal and informal arguments, and many disciplines in philosophy. Critical thinking is the work and not merely the goal of this course.

Requirements and Procedures.

- attendance is mandatory

- class participation is expected

- quizzes on material from both sections of the course will be unannounced

- there will be no make-up quizzes

- assignments must be completed and submitted by the date announced

- all late work will be penalized one full letter grade per day

- absences due to religious observances must be arranged by the second class meeting

- students may record meetings, but the sale of any recording is prohibited

- ACADEMIC DISHONESTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED
