(i) Description
The course is an
examination of Aristotle’s philosophy with an emphasis on his theory of human
nature, the good life and the pursuit of knowledge. The main texts we will work with are the On the Soul, the Nicomachean
Ethics, the Politics, and the Poetics. We will also cover parts of the Categories, the Posterior
Analytics, and the Metaphysics to the degree that these
texts help our understanding of what a human being is and in what the good life
consists.

(iii) Course Requirements
Attendance,
participation in classroom discussions, and four papers. The grade will be cumulative.
Papers: Each paper (6
pages; double-spaced) will consist of three essay questions on topics that we
will cover in class.
