We
are a growing department located in an urban setting in the
vibrant Tampa Bay area. The diversity of faculty and student
community is reflected in the rich variety of courses we
offer and the federally funded research programs we host. Our
graduate (Ph.D., M.S.) and undergraduate (B.S., B.A.) programs
are tailored to meet the current trends and expectations in
academia and industry.

Upcoming Meeting for the Society of
Physics Students: 1:00pm, September 5, PHY211A
All are welcome to attend.
We would like to kick off the 2008-2009 school year with
officer elections over lunch. There will be free
pizza. In addition to elections, future events will be
discussed. These events include but are not limited
to:
Participation in a ropes course at Riverfront
Park. The activity is reputed to
promote teamwork and should provide an excellent
opportunity for members to become acquainted or
further acquainted with each other.
Design and production of t-shirts.
There were a lot of brilliant ideas for the
design last year. We are still open to new
ideas as well. We intend to see one
creative idea in print and on a shirt this year.
Period.
Our Fall Halloween event, "Frighteningly
Freaky Physics." Like the t-shirt
design, this is an area to show off your
creativity. Feeling inspired? Be
sure to speak up on Friday!
EXPO. If there is one defining
event for SPS, it is EXPO. EXPO is a
chance to display the ingenuity and practical
applications of science and engineering to the
public. It is usually held in February on
a Friday and a Saturday. EXPO is a lot of
fun to watch and participate in. It's not
something you would want to miss once you've
seen it.
Hope to see everyone on Friday! We have a lot of fun
items to talk about.
SPS membership is open to all students with an
interest in physics. Membership applications
can be obtained
here.
Further questions should be directed to SPS advisor,
Dr. Criss at

Science is now open to all continuing
undergraduate students majoring in chemistry,
physics, or statistics. The scholarship
covers up to $10,000 per year, depending on
financial need as determined by the
financial-aid office. You may still be
eligible even if you already have a
Bright-Futures or other scholarship. Funds
in the amount of $500,000 for the scholarship
have been provided by the National Science
Foundation.
In addition to the money, the scholarship
