                                                                       has permission to enroll in the Service Learning Internship of the course “Racial and Ethnic Relations.”  By signing this document, the student verifies that:

 


                    He/She has read the requirements for this internship as contained in the course syllabus and agrees to satisfy these requirements in order to obtain a “Satisfactory” grade in the internship. 

 

                    He/She agrees to establish and maintain responsible and respectful relationships with the clients and staff of the agency with which he/she is working. 

 

                    He/She agrees to respect the confidentiality of the clients at the agency by never disclosing the name of a client either in class discussions or in written papers.

                    He/She has read the requirements for the internship as contained in the course syllabus and agrees to assist the student in satisfying the requirements.

 

                    He/She realizes the intent of the internship is to provide experiences that conform to the aims of the course.  As stated on the syllabus, the course aims to challenge students to:  1) arrive at a new appreciation and understanding of groups other than themselves, 2) develop an understanding of the processes that generate and sustain inequality in our society; and 3) reach informed judgments about practical and worthwhile social policies.  To this end, students should be provided with volunteer opportunities that: expose them to clients; increase their understanding of the social problems that affect the lives of the clients; and raise their awareness of various types of programs used to address those social problems.
