Frequently Asked Questions for Undergraduate Graduation

How do I apply late for graduation, is there a late fee?

a. USF’s current policy states that applications submitted past the application deadline are subject to a $50.00 late application fee payable to the USF cashier’s office.  Mail a $50 check or money order to the Cashier’s Office and be sure to indicate that the payment is for a late graduation application fee.

UCO-Cashier’s Office
University of South Florida
4202 East Fowler Ave., SVC1039
Tampa, Florida  33620-5800

You must also download a bachelor’s degree graduation application and submit it to BEH 201, 4202 E. Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL  33620

The last day to pay this fee and have the application turn in is the last day of classes for the term in which you wish to be considered for graduation. Please remember to bring in the receipt of payment with your late application.  You may opt to forgo this fee and submit an application for a future term by the deadline posted on the degree application.

Why should I wait until six weeks after the deadline to find out if there is a problem with my graduation status?

a. You do not have to wait for our office's notification of a graduation issue. You can find out directly from your academic advisor if you have not already done so.

How do I withdraw my graduation application?

a. You must email the sender of the graduation status notification email that you will receive, explaining that you wish to withdraw you application. Your email will be forwarded to the Office of the Registrars for final approval.

How do I know if I am eligible to purchase the honors medallion for the graduation ceremony?

a. Those who are eligible for honors at graduation will be on a USF Bookstore list. Eligibility to purchase the medallion is based on your most recent end of term gpa calculations. You must have a minimum of 40 graded USF hours, a USF gpa of 3.5 and a cumulative gpa of 3.5. In order to determine eligibility for honors, courses that are excluded in your gpa via transfer course repeats and/or USF's grade forgiveness policy are added back into the gpa calculation.

Why does it take so long to receive your diploma after the ceremony?

a. Final grades are not due until after the ceremony and once grades are posted by the University, the Colleges and the Office of the Registrar take approximately four weeks to verify grades, approve or deny degrees, and post and proof degree outcomes. It then takes approximately ten working days from the time of ordering of the diploma to reach you.

I have a job offer and can't wait that long to prove my degree?

a. The College of Arts and Sciences will by happy to provide you with a letter of completion upon your request. Graduation Verification Letter request forms are available via our website under Forms.

I want to continue with a second undergraduate degree in the following semester. What do I need to do to remain degree seeking as a 5B (post baccalaureate)?

a. You must reply to the sender of the graduation status notification email that you will receive, stating that you wish to continue on in the term following graduation. You must include your UID and you must specify a major in order to stay in a degree seeking status. We will request that your status be re-coded to a 5B major for the following term upon certification of your first degree. Understand that this process does not happen until about the 3rd week of the following term and financial aid will not release aid until then.

This process excludes students who have already applied for admissions to a graduate program.

Please note The official USF transcript showing your degree and diploma will not be available until approximately 10 weeks after the end of the term.
