Department Overview :: Alumni and Alumni Organization

I graduated in 1999 with WST major and a minor in Women of Color Studies - proceeded to work with the Feminst Majority Foundation for a few months in DC, and left to work as a Legislative Liason/Executive Assistant for the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (NCAP) doing lobbying work representing the needs of independent abortion doctors and clinics around the country. We did everything from site visits to congressional briefings on clinic issues; I also helped them to establish a separate foundation - the Foundation to Preserve Access to Abortion - primarily with the intent of doing more community/education/outreach on abortion issues.

I moved back home to Jacksonville, FL in the fall of 2002 where I worked as a Health Care Assistant at Planned Parenthood - I worked with both the Administrative side as well as (primarily) with patients doing sexuality education, counseling, various patient services...gave state/legislative updates to board members, assisted doctors/practioners with various medical services - std checks, abortions, etc...And now I'm back here. After all these years (I can't believe its been 5 years since I've graduated!) I really want to get back to school. I want to teach college - follow in the steps of those who have made the most difference for me - and I'm hoping to find the best program to help me do that. I've become very interested in politics/law/social action and am hoping to begin a MA program that will help me learn to teach and promote social action - in short, how to make feminist and political theory tangible for use in social movements--to help all of these people who wish to create change make it happen.
