Figure 3. The southern part of the Cima volcanic field, CA, provides an excellent example of how detailed mapping and age determinations are essential for understanding the evolution of volcanic fields. This cluster of approximately 30 vents formed largely during the last 0.7 Ma. This pulse of activity accompanied a significant shift in the locus of volcanic activity in the field - older vents are located north of this cluster.
