This course will examine texts in Greek and Roman rhetoric between 400 BC and the first century AD. Our goal will be to explore significant issues in classical rhetoric, paying particular attention to discussing connections between theory and antiquity and later applications and implications. We will also consider relationships among classical rhetoric, philosophy, literature, and literary theory.
