General Overview

My main research interests lie in the areas of social and cultural psychology. The majority of my research has explored how cultural norms, values, and beliefs contribute to male violence. A specific focus of my research has been on the cultural ideology of honor. In collaboration with Dov Cohen and others, I have looked at how male concerns with honor, status, and reputation may contribute to a perpetuation of violence.

More recently, I have begun exploring (with Mike Norton and John Darley) how people make decisions when ascribed social categories such as race or gender are involved, and how they justify such decisions.
